The European Green Deal has become a top priority of the European Union – with up to one third of the future EU budget directed to green topics – consequently, actions will also have to be undertaken on the local level to implement these green priorities. The Green Deal is not only intended for large cities and expansive metropolitan areas, in fact, many European small and medium-sized cities are frontrunners in transforming to green and circular economies; including winning the European Green Capital Award. The goal of the conference is to discuss and showcase how small and medium-sized cities in Europe can transform their local ecosystems and policies to create green and sustainable living environments for their citizens.
